Meet the Founders of Lark Tours
Colin Camu
Colin was born in the Great Karoo Desert of South Africa in a little town called De Aar. At the age of eight his family moved to Cape Town where he spent his years growing up. After a series of events that led him to the Netherlands and Israel, he eventually settled down in the U.S. Colin currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina where he has established a number of successful businesses. Throughout all his life Colin has maintained his love for travel, adventure, and most importantly, his love for South Africa.
Colin's knowledge of Africa provides a solid cornerstone for the high degree of expertise we are able to provide all our clients at Lark Tours. He is central in developing the trips Lark Tours currently offers, as well as providing important information for all our clients who want their own custom itineraries. Furthermore, Colin brings years of invaluable business experience to Lark Tours. Prior to being an entrepreneur Colin was involved in operations management. He was instrumental in implementing a quality improvement process, overseeing customer service, and maintaining a safety program for a multi-national paper corporation. His responsibilities also included overseeing it's trucking fleet and all employees. After leaving the corporate life, he has continued his track record of safety with his other businesses. For example, he owns a successful tree removal service, which operates in the most dangerous industry in America, and has a track record of zero accidents in over 12 years. So when you travel with Lark Tours, rest easy knowing that ensuring your safety and security are of the utmost importance to us.
Basil Camu
Basil's passion for travel began as a young adult when he set off on a number of do-it-yourself adventures including hiking through Holland, Belgium, France, and England, exploring sections of Europe by train, and completing several extensive hikes on the Appalachian Trail. His greatest experience, though, began in southern Africa where he lived and traveled extensively in South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, and more. This land of incredible beauty, rich history, constant adventure, cultural diversity, and remarkable wildlife became Basil's favorite region of the world, so much so that he co-founded Lark Tours. Basil now enjoys returning to Africa on a regular basis to develop new trips, to maintain and create business relationships, and to accompany clients on vacation.
Before Lark Tours, Basil graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University with a double major in economics and history. He worked as an Economic Analyst at a major law firm in Washington, D.C. before eventually returning to his passion for travel in southern Africa and co-founding Lark Tours. With his background, Basil provides Lark Tours with sound business know-how and innovative business solutions. He has a deep understanding of economics as well as a knowledge of business on both a domestic and global scale. Combine this with his years of travel experience, and he provides Lark Tours with a key understanding of the needs of the American globe-trotter.
