Day 12: Prince Albert

Today we leave for a tour of Die Hel (also known as Gamkaskloof). Die Hel, a fertile valley hidden deep in the heart of the formidable Swartberg Mountain Range, stayed mostly isolated from the world until the 1960’s. Just to get to Die Hel we must navigate the awesome Swartberg Pass, which zig-zags up and down the mountains and along hairpin turns, offering magnificent views of the scenery where every new sight seems better than the last. Peaks tower all around, and the harsh mountainous landscape provides evidence of the Earth’s geological power.
