Hike in Tsitsikamma National Park: 3-Day Short Trip in South Africa

Just outside Knysna we begin our 3-day/2-night hike along the South African coast in Tsitsikamma National Park. Over the next three days our hike takes us approximately 10 miles through cool forests and along the coast of the Indian Ocean, from the Storms River Mouth to the banks of the Sandrift River. When we are not hiking, we soak in the beautiful ocean views, swim, sunbathe, watch the coastal birds, keep a sharp lookout for dolphins and whales, and unwind in our comfortable, remote chalets.

Day One: Cape Town/Tsitsikamma National Park

Today we make the scenic drive from Cape Town to Knysna, which is located in the heart of the garden route, via South Africa’s famous Route 62. This scenic drive meanders through mountain ranges, charming farmlands, old vineyards, and breathtaking passes. Upon arrival we settle into our chalets and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the surroundings.

Day Two: Tsitsikamma National Park

Begin the day with a boat ride into the Storms River Gorge. We then hike to Lookout Point for magnificent views over the Indian Ocean. We continue along the trail, ending the day in the lush forest of Misty Mountain Reserve. We settle into our luxury chalets before taking a swim, enjoying bass fishing, or just relaxing. That night we watch the sun set over the ocean, with cool drinks in hand.

Day Three: Tsitsikamma National Park

The final day's hike is mostly at sea level, which means we have the opportunity to see the ocean life, otters, and more up close. That afternoon, after we arrive at the Fernery, our accommodations for the night, we spend time snorkeling, swimming, boating, bird-watching, or simply relaxing in the jacuzzi.

Day Four: Tsitsikamma National Park

After one last breakfast enjoy the adventurous 4x4 trip through Storms River Pass back to our starting point. From there we transfer back to Cape Town
